The first workflow matters
Your first AI automation should prove value quickly without creating unnecessary risk. If it is too small, nobody cares. If it is too complex, the project stalls before the team trusts the system.
Score volume and time cost
Start with workflows that happen daily or weekly: data entry, routing, reporting, ticket triage, request intake, document review, and follow-ups.
Look for messy inputs
AI is useful when the workflow involves natural language, documents, emails, notes, or unstructured forms. Ordinary automation is enough for simple routing.
Control the risk
Choose a workflow where mistakes are visible and recoverable. Keep humans in the loop for approval where needed.
Define the metric before building
Time saved, error rate, response time, completion rate, and team adoption are better than vague claims about efficiency.
